Charles Clark is an internationally recognised expert in IP strategy, having been included in the IAM300 of the World’s Leading IP Strategists since 2015. Charles began his career in the UK’s MOD R&D establishment (later becoming QinetiQ), where he first came into contact with the world of IP and he pivoted his career to train as a patent attorney. Since 2008 he has been in leadership positions in various sectors, including precision engineering, manufacturing, consumer goods and energy. Charles has spent the majority of his career in-house, where he gained first-hand experience of handling and managing IP in various business processes, such as initial public offerings (at the LSE and NASDAQ), all phases of acquisitions on the buy and sell side (identification, assessment and integration), divestments or exit planning, contracting or partnering with third parties, as well as the day-to-day IP operations needed to build world class IP portfolios. Sam has held senior financial management positions in Intellectual Property, Travel, Retail and Manufacturing industries and is currently a Fractional FD / CFO in a number of SME and start up businesses. Sam works in partnership with entrepreneurs and boards to build long term financial stability and growth, tailoring her engagement to the operational and strategic needs of each business. This includes setting up finance operations and controls, development and implementation of KPIs, budgeting and business plans, as well as complex financial modelling and assessment of the viability of strategic initiatives such as pricing, new market entry, acquisitions and employee incentives.

Alexis started her legal career at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where she gained experience in the Intellectual Property (IP)/Information Technology (IT) and Commercial team. Later, Alexis joined management consultancy firm, Alpha FMC, as their first and sole legal counsel during a period of rapid growth for the company which included three acquisitions and significant global expansion. Alexis became Global Head of Legal and a trusted advisor to the Board, whilst being responsible for all new legal matters for the company including client and supplier contracts, litigation, trade-marks, recruitment insurance and employment. Alexis now focuses on Fractional work, working with established, growing businesses that understand the need for highly competent legal services, but don’t need a full-time, in-house lawyer.

Previously, Charlie was EMEA VP and GM for Plumtree Software, building its business as the first European employee in a phase of exceptional growth that saw it successfully complete an IPO in 2002 and eventually sell to BEA Systems. Charlie has 40 years of technology and software enterprise sales leadership experience.

Ian is an experienced IP professional specialising in IP strategy, litigation, risk management and corporate governance. Ian held senior leadership and innovation roles at a global provider of IP & research services for 11 years, overseeing corporate IP matters, M&A, risk management and operational efficiency. Reporting directly to the COO and advising the CEO on IP-related litigation risks, Ian led the expansion and restructuring of the IP legal team, growing it across multiple geographies. Prior to this, Ian held senior IP leadership positions at Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks where he managed global patent portfolios, licensing strategies and litigation support for emerging software technologies. As Head of IPR for the Applications & Solutions Technology Group, he helped establish the IP organisation of the Joint Venture and played a key role in IPR generation and risk management, working with teams across the UK, Germany and Finland. Ian has also held in-house IP roles in the automotive sector in Germany and within the UK defence industry.
